Anyone catch his lecture and Q&A at Kansas State University yesterday? Just curious to see what everyone thought. I felt most all of his explanations made good common sense especially his statements about the wiretapping issue and about the decision making process that took place before going to war in Iraq. He stated that before the war Saddam was given the ultimatum based on a resolution from the U.N to disarm, disclose and cooperate fully OR face serious consequences. Saddam chose to face the so called "serious consequences" rather than comply. In the wiretapping issue Bush stated that if Al-Queda is making phone calls into the United States then the Gov't needs to know why.

It was also interesting what Bush said about Iran possibly gaining nuclear capability. Bush stated that Israel is our ally and the United States would defend them against any nation with hostile intentions toward their country. He also pointed out that any "non transparent" country such as Iran posed a threat to world peace if they were to acquire nuclear capability.

Did he mention the fact that the "friendly fire" deaths are at an amazing rate. Lowest ever, maybe 10 times any other conflict, or that some of the countries that are on the same side as we are have had to color their story to match what was needed to match ours? Disturbing...found some of this floating around, people wanting to know EXACTLY how their kids died , not just satisfied with "in action" digging around when their units come home. Stories that were sent don't match what comes back with the folks that were with them.

Which rights are you willing (as Americans) to give up?
Right now it's the 1st (Freedom of Speech and Press), 4th Amendment (Unwarranted search and seizure), and the 6th Amendment (Right to speedy trial).

This country has flourished for 225 years because of rights. I want elected leaders/military personnel to know what is going on with Al Quida too, but where does it end? What other "rights" will you give up? And what are you going to do when the government has taken away all of your rights?

This is not a political issue (though most people think in those terms 24/7), this is about rights as an American. Without rights, what makes up so much different from the terrorists?

Everyone that was wiretapped was trashed, privacy/homes by the tap, freedom of speech by the fact they were not allowed to speak freely, right to trial, as terrorists each time they were violated. Sword gets sharp don't it? Now should Bush have to answer why he allowed members of the bin Lauden family to be flown out of the country while ALL flights were grounded, after 9/11/01? Was this not treason as these folks might have been terrorists also, not even questioning them?

Guess it will be up to them if it gets to the point that I want to fight about it, I'd say I could really make things interesting if I were pushed. Never see it coming to that point, but my family has been running these moutains forever. It won't take as much to live on as you might think, once you accept certain things, and a lot of these are day to day rules underground. By the way did Dubya mention the money he cut from the R&D budget for safety programs like MSHA? Big change from the previous guy. The things they are talking about should have been in the works for years, but ya gotta keep that cost down.
